Board adopts 2025–26 academic calendar; spring break stays aligned with BOCES
Summary
The Ithaca City School District board unanimously adopted the 2025–26 academic calendar after staff said moving spring break would leave about 275 BOCES students without programming. The adopted calendar keeps caregiver conference scheduling changes and aligns winter and spring breaks with Cornell for this year, officials said.

The Ithaca City School District board voted unanimously to adopt the district’s 2025–26 academic calendar at a public meeting.
District calendar coordinator Mary (presenter) summarized community feedback gathered through the district’s “Let’s Talk” portal and said the most frequent requests concerned a longer winter break and shifting the spring break from its current March week to the first week of April. Mary told the board that if the district moved spring break to April 6 it would be out of sync with the BOCES calendar and “deny 275 students their educational programming” that week; she recommended keeping the spring break in the proposed slot to preserve BOCES participation.
The adopted calendar includes a full day of caregiver conferences in the fall (a change requested by some families and staff), and staff noted the district will continue to review the calendar based on instructional needs and union agreements. The board president thanked student advocates and acknowledged a student request about recognizing Diwali — board members encouraged student advocacy and offered to assist with legislative outreach but did not change the calendar on that basis.
The motion to adopt the calendar was moved by Adam and seconded by Joe; the board approved the calendar unanimously.
Ending: Board members encouraged community members to continue to submit calendar feedback and noted the possibility of minor schedule adjustments in future years with advance notice.
