Board approves personnel report, names new principals and administrators; deletes five policies and adopts Pre-K enrollment update

Superintendent Dr. Brown highlighted several new appointments that will be announced to the community. "She's gonna be the new principal at Carolina Elementary," Dr. Brown said of Jessica Salopeci, who was present for the meeting. Dr. Brown also announced Carrie Berg as the districts new director of athletics and wellness, and said Samantha Little will transition to be principal at WJ Martin. Dr. Brown added that Caitlin Brown will take on a role leading special education after a robust search process.
Trustees moved and approved a package of policy deletions. Five policies were presented for second reading and deletion: policy 4112 (the school day), 4114 (dismissal of school), 4115 (policy to limit elementary classroom interruptions), 4300 (supervision), and 4530.1 (community as a classroom). Each deletion was moved and seconded and recorded as passing by voice vote.
The board also moved and adopted policy 5150.1 on Pre-K enrollment. The change removes a specific date from the policy and clarifies that Pre-K seats will be allocated by random lottery and then filled as applications arrive; trustees indicated the policy aligns the written rule with current practice.
Trustees also set the annual reorganizational meeting for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Ithaca High School, York Hall, 400 Lake Street, Ithaca, New York, and directed the district clerk to notify the public. That motion was moved by Adam, seconded by Karen, and passed unanimously.
No further actions were taken on the personnel report beyond approval; several transitions and retirements were acknowledged by the superintendent and trustees.
