At a special meeting, the Ithaca School District Board approved Robert Van Keuren as clerk pro tem, removed agenda item 3.1 from tonight’s calendar and voted to enter executive session to discuss employment history of particular individuals, ongoing negotiations, possible litigation and the superintendent’s evaluation.
Board President (name not specified) explained the meeting’s purpose was to ensure the district “adheres to both our fiscal responsibilities as well as hiring needs” before the fiscal year ended on June 30 and asked that agenda item 3.1 be removed until the July meeting. “It’ll be back on the July meeting. It was not intended to be listed for this meeting,” the president said, adding the short delay would not affect the bidding or purchasing process.
Board member Adam moved to approve Robert Van Keuren as clerk pro tem for occasions when the district clerk is unable to perform duties; board member Jill seconded the motion. After the consent items were presented, Adam moved to approve all consent-agenda items — including the personnel and student reports and consideration of accounts — with Jill seconding. The board president thanked Van Keuren: “Thank you, mister Van Keuren, for taking on these additional responsibilities.” The consent agenda passed unanimously.
Later in the meeting, Adam moved and Jill seconded a motion to enter executive session. The board voted to enter executive session; the motion passed. The stated purposes for the executive session were the employment histories of particular individuals, ongoing negotiations, possible litigation and the superintendent evaluation. The president advised that the public portion of the meeting was concluded and that board members would reconvene privately; refreshments were available next door.
No roll-call vote tallies for individual members were recorded in the public transcript beyond the chair’s statement that motions passed unanimously and that the motion to enter executive session passed. Agenda item 3.1 will return on the July agenda, and staff said the brief deferral would not impact previously completed bidding or purchasing steps that had already been performed.
The board did not take any additional public actions during the meeting.
