Carl, an organizer of the Lake Jackson cleanup, told the Sebring City Council the 11th annual event will be Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon at Veterans Beach and urged community members to participate. “If you have a boat, we would love for you to come. You don't have to have any special skills,” Carl said, noting volunteers will work from boats and along the shoreline and sidewalks.
Carl described partner support and on-water safety resources: “Scott has arranged that the Sebring fire rescue boat will be there, and they're very, very helpful. They come with the dive unit, so they actually go down deeper.” He also said the county would provide an airboat and the sheriff's office would contribute two boats with operators. Volunteers will be supplied with trash bags and reflective vests, and filled bags will be left on the curb for city pickup.
The organizer said hot dogs and drinks will be provided after the cleanup, coordinated with Sebring Fire and the Rotary Club. “I talked to Dave Travers who does most of the cooking. He just needs to get a number from you when you're when you're ready,” Carl said. He said the event has historically filled “like, 2 dumpsters” of material and encouraged people who care about Lake Jackson’s water quality to attend.
Council members and staff confirmed logistics can be coordinated with city crews and event volunteers; Carl said he will follow up with Dave Robertson to provide a head count for post-event food. No formal action or vote by the council was required or taken on the presentation.
Organizers and council members repeatedly framed the event as a community volunteer effort that has run annually since 2015 and relies on partner agencies for boats, dive support and post-event cleanup.
