The Somers Point City Council approved the 2025 road program rebid and the municipal-aid reconstruction of New Jersey Avenue after the city received lower-than-expected bids on several contracts.
City Engineer Snyder told the council the rebid produced lower numbers and allowed the city to add Cedar Avenue to the program. "When we first bid the project, the bids were $854,200. The rebate was $887,005.89 with the additional street," Snyder said, describing the rebid results and projected costs.
Snyder also reported New Jersey Avenue came in lower on rebid at about $341,086. He said that project would be completely paid for by a state Department of Transportation grant and that the grant amount was $368,175; any unspent construction funds will be applied to engineering costs.
Council approved Resolution 200 (2025 road program rebid) and Resolution 201 (FY2024 municipal aid reconstruction of New Jersey Avenue) by voice votes without recorded opposition. Snyder said contractors would receive a notice to proceed in September and would have 90 days to begin work once the notice is issued.
The council asked staff to coordinate notifications to affected businesses so they are not blindsided by construction. Snyder said the city plans repaving after the water-main work discussed elsewhere on the agenda.
The approvals conclude the bid-award process for these contracts; the city did not adopt additional supplemental appropriations at the meeting.
