Commissioner announces departure; Civic Center closure forces Nov. 2025 meeting date change

During new and unfinished business at the Dec. 10, 2024, AMSO Fire Merit Commission meeting, the presiding officer and commissioners addressed several scheduling and personnel items. A commission member announced that Dec. 10 was his last meeting after more than 12 years of service and said he had spoken with the mayor's office, which will appoint a new commission member. The presiding officer thanked the departing member for his service. The commission also discussed a citizen commendation award presentation that had been delayed because of the recipient's work schedule; members agreed to schedule the presentation for the January meeting and to use the same meeting room if available. Separately, Commissioner C reported the Civic Center will be closed on Nov. 11, 2025, and the commission agreed the November 2025 meeting date would need to change; staff agreed to check room availability and to propose an alternate date. In new business, commissioners discussed VCSO overtime pay and asked about a point of contact at the sheriff's office; one commissioner volunteered to serve as a liaison and staff suggested contacting the building authority (Rector) to direct inquiries.
