Innovative Leadership Academy told Texas Education Agency staff it plans transportation and student‑wellbeing tools and described how it will protect student privacy and train staff.
Applicants said they plan to purchase three vans using CSP funds to provide morning and afternoon routes. School leaders said drivers could be contracted or staff may be eligible to drive; the team said they prefer contracted drivers to avoid overburdening teachers and are exploring grants and donated wheelchair‑accessible vans for students with mobility needs. Selection for limited routes would be on a first‑come, first‑served basis until capacity expands.
On student well‑being technology, applicants described a simple mood‑tracker used during morning advisory as a daily check‑in (color or icon selection). Tony Fisher and board members said the tracker is intended to help teachers and counselors identify students who may need immediate social‑emotional supports. Applicants said mood‑tracker participation would be optional, parents may review the data, and students or parents could opt out of the digital check‑in. They told TEA that the data would be stored in the school’s learning management system, restricted to staff with a need to know, and that the board will develop a privacy policy to guide vendor selection and data handling.
Applicants also addressed teacher training and technology support. The Year‑0 professional development line item for vendor PD was modest; applicants said vendor training, on‑demand webinars and a full‑time technologist on staff will supplement preservice PD (10 days) plus ongoing embedded professional development. The board said the technologist will operate as a “train‑the‑teacher” resource and provide classroom co‑teaching support for technical tools during the launch.
TEA staff raised privacy concerns and asked about parental access and opt‑out; applicants stated they would ensure parental access to mood data, allow opt‑outs and create a robust privacy policy before deployment. Applicants said specific vendor choices and written policies would be finalized upon authorization and procurement.
