Trustee Jim Crockett and village staff updated the board on several public-works projects at the Sept. 2 Manteno meeting, including Legacy Park, County Highway 9 reconstruction and a Leahy Street storm sewer project that will require work in private backyards.
Crockett said Legacy Park’s pond is nearly full and saw increased use. He reported County Highway 9 reconstruction will soon focus on northbound lanes while some utility relocations — ComEd poles and NICOR work — remain on the south side. Motor fuel tax (MFT) paving work was expected to begin in about 10 days to two weeks after contractors finish prior commitments.
On the Leahy Street project, village engineers from HR Green told trustees the work will use directional boring for much of the underground work; Crockett said residents should expect “a couple wheelbarrows, 2, 3 wheelbarrows size hole” in some backyards but that the work will primarily be trenchless. The board was told the project may start by the end of September or appear on the first board meeting in October and could extend into the following spring. Trustees said HR Green has been notifying residents in the area.
No new votes were taken on these projects at the Sept. 2 meeting. Staff and trustees said they will continue to coordinate public notices and timing to reduce disruption to residents while completing utility and road work.
