Deputy Superintendent Farnsworth told the Lake County School Board on July 28 that the district had received word federal funds were being released, and said the funding will help with Title programs.
Farnsworth thanked staff and leaders across the district for their flexibility in uncertain economic times and said the district is preparing for the new school year. He said "Launch into Lake" — the district’s orientation for new teachers — begins tomorrow, returning teachers start next week and students will return for the first day of classes on Aug. 11.
As part of safety preparations, Farnsworth announced interactive active-assailant training sessions with simulated gunfire and student actors: one session is scheduled Thursday at East Ridge Middle School and another Friday at Umatilla High School. He asked the public not to be alarmed if they encounter a large law-enforcement presence or hear loud noises at those schools during the exercises. He also thanked the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and other partners involved.
Farnsworth and board members noted recent district events: a ribbon cutting at Medieval Horizon Academy and the opening of a new facility at Fruitland Park School. Board members praised community partners for a back-to-school bash in Leesburg that provided 750 backpacks to local students; the transcript lists sponsors including The Father's House, Church of the Lakes and UF Health.
The transcript does not provide dollar amounts for the federal funds release, and it does not specify changes to Title-program allocations beyond the deputy superintendent’s statement that the funds "will help us with some of those title funds." No formal board action was recorded on the funding announcement in the meeting transcript.
