The Putnam County School Board unanimously approved Aug. 5 a recommendation from the naming committee to name the press box at Bennett Cooper Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium after Ron Dennis.
John Raymond presented the committee’s recommendation on behalf of a committee led by coach Jim McCool. "We ... hope that you will support and approve our request and naming the press box at Bennett Cooper Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium after Ron Dennis," Raymond told the board.
Raymond and other committee members described Dennis as a longtime teacher, coach, athletic director and the radio voice of Panther football for more than 38 years, calling and broadcasting home, away and playoff games. The committee noted Dennis’s involvement with the Putnam County Education Foundation and decades of volunteer service and fundraising for local student awards.
A board member moved to accept the committee’s recommendation and name the press box after Dennis. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
The board did not identify a date for a naming ceremony; the committee asked the board to support the recommendation at the Aug. 5 meeting and the board approved the naming on the record.
