The Copperas Cove City Council approved an ordinance canceling the Nov. 4 general election after three candidates filed unopposed; the council formally declared each elected by ordinance.
The Copperas Cove City Council voted Wednesday to cancel the Nov. 4 general election and declare the three unopposed candidates elected to their seats.
City Secretary Lisa Wilson told the council that the filing period closed with one applicant for each of the three open positions: Howard Hawk for Place 3, John Veil for Place 4 and Del Treadway for Place 5. Wilson said no write-in candidates filed and that a certification of unopposed candidates was prepared under Section 2.052 of the Texas Election Code. The council adopted Ordinance No. 2025-31 to cancel the election.
Councilmember Christina Strophas made the motion to approve the ordinance and Rita Hogan seconded. The council voted in favor with no recorded opposition.
The ordinance follows the city secretary’s certification and the council’s authority under state election law to cancel an election when candidates are unopposed.
