The College Place Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously on Aug. 21 to change its regular meeting cadence from monthly to quarterly and scheduled the next regular meeting for Oct. 16, 2025.
Commissioners said the change is intended to reduce frequent cancellations and make scheduling clearer for members and the public. The new regular schedule will be January, April, July and October each year; special meetings can be called if business arises.
Commissioner Terry Amott made the motion to amend the commission’s regular meeting schedule to quarterly and to set the next regular meeting for Oct. 16, 2025. A fellow commissioner seconded the motion. Chair Gary Peterson, Commissioner Kat Ferguson and Amott voted in favor; no members opposed.
During discussion, commissioners said quarterly meetings would make planning and attendance more predictable. The commission’s chair, Gary Peterson, said the change grew from the frequent need to cancel meetings when there was insufficient business. The commissioners agreed that staff could call special meetings when necessary, including to accommodate upcoming grant work the commission is expected to review.
The commission concluded that the October meeting will be used to take up substantive business arising before the start of 2026. Staff said they will publicize the new schedule and continue to call special meetings for time-sensitive items.
