During the Aug. 12 board meeting, Bobby Locklear updated the Board of Education on the status of ESSER III projects continuing over the summer.
Locklear told the board the packet included an update current as of Aug. 1 and that roughly 10 days of additional work had occurred since the packet was prepared. He said Lumberton Senior High work is progressing on schedule; "Switch gear has arrived and is stored in a bonded warehouse," Locklear reported, and the district included the warehouse bond certificate in board materials.
Locklear said Saint Paul's Elementary construction was about 95% complete as of slightly more than a week before the meeting. He described the largest project as the one at Pembroke Elementary (transcript spelling varies); as of the earlier report it had been about 50% complete and had reached later‑stage work such as exterior doors and glazing. Locklear said what remained at Pembroke were minor finishes that, to his knowledge, should not prevent students from occupying the building on Aug. 25.
Why this matters: ESSER III funds support capital and remediation work intended to improve learning environments; the district provided progress updates and documentation (bond certificate for switchgear) to reassure the board about timing and procurement.
No formal action was required; the item was presented as information and staff invited questions from board members.
