Members of the Wareham School Committee reviewed options for forming a superintendent search committee and agreed to mirror the mix used previously, while inviting public input before finalizing appointments.
Kevin (School Committee member) reviewed the positions included on the prior search committee: two school committee members, one principal, one special‑education parent, one regular‑education parent, one town official (the town administrator last time), an elementary teacher, a middle school teacher, a high school teacher, one central office staff member, a student, and a community member at large. The committee discussed whether to add a finance‑committee representative and whether to include union representation; members noted last year a staff member served both as a teacher representative and as a union rep.
Members agreed the committee should be large enough to represent constituencies but manageable — generally 13–15 people — and suggested keeping an odd number when possible. The committee will put out a public notice to solicit community members and will appoint members as a group in open session. Committee members said they will finalize names and dates after consultant Mr. Costello is scheduled to return on Sept. 4.
No vote was recorded at the meeting; the committee directed staff to announce the search‑committee application process and to return with proposed meeting dates.
