At its Sept. 4 meeting the Buncombe County Board of Education approved two items pulled from the consent agenda: renaming a stage at Cane Creek Middle School in honor of a longtime staff member and authorizing the scheduled disposal of public records.
Chairman Elliott introduced the renaming and praised the honoree’s service, saying the staff member "exemplified the very best of what it means to be an educator" and that the renaming recognized "someone as important to the Cane Creek Middle School community." A board member moved the renaming; a second was recorded, and Elliott called for the vote. "Any opposed? Hearing none, motion carries," Elliott said.
Board members also approved a twice-yearly schedule of public-records disposal. A board member asked why some schools were included on this cycle and not others; district staff said the disposals are staged twice a year to manage the volume and that all schools are covered across the two cycles. The board approved the records-disposal request by voice vote with no opposition reported.
Following the two separate approvals, the board approved the remainder of the consent agenda by voice vote without discussion.
