Sumner City Administrator Jeff Stephens told the council Aug. 18 that the city will terminate its long-running contract with a third party for senior-center services and resume daily operations and management of the center in the coming weeks.
"Based on cost effectiveness as well as the overall service level, the executive department felt it was necessary to terminate the private agreement for senior center services," Stephens said. He named Stafford Suites and Care Partners as organizations the city thanked for stewardship over the past 12 years and said there is no anticipated service disruption as operations transition back to the city.
Separately, Stephens told the council the city will provide Ryan heirs an opportunity on Oct. 1 to review and collect any items salvaged from the Ryan House; he said more information would be posted on the city website by the end of the week.
The termination was presented as an administrative decision; no motion or council vote on this specific contract termination was recorded during the meeting.
