Superintendent outlines summer facilities work: boilers, roofs, cafeteria lines and new bocce courts

- Southdown: new boilers, painted univents, replaced ceiling tiles, a new faculty-lounge floor, plans to replace gym interior double doors and repair a retaining wall around the school sign.
- Washington: a new cafeteria serving line installed the first week of school, new cafeteria floor, rooftop solar panels installed or planned, and resealed gym floor; fencing and retaining-wall work were under discussion to improve site security.
- Jack Abrams STEM: two phases of roof work (phases 2 and 3) described; cafeteria skylights and mechanical upgrades were completed; boiler-room door replacement and blacktop resealing were listed as forthcoming; the final roof phase (approved in May) will proceed to bidding.
- Woodhall Intermediate: a cafeteria bottle-filler installed after water testing, gym-floor reseal, an expanded security office space carved out, replacement of a broken loading dock, and mulching of playgrounds and beds.
- Finley/Findlay/Findlay Middle area (transcript spelling varied): skylight repairs, gym-floor reseal, stone wall installations at entries and upgraded science rooms with electrical work still pending.
- Huntington High School: new bocce courts and courtyard installed; resealed gym floors, hallway lighting upgrades (internal crew replaced lights), a new wrestling mat and upgraded wrestling-room air conditioning; new electrified basketball backboards were installed.
Dr. Harris said the district has carried out many capital improvements since 2012 and emphasized careful planning to complete work with minimal debt; she credited the buildings and grounds staff, Mr. Rouse and Mr. Grama by name for much of the work. No formal vote was required for this presentation-only item.
