Bulloch County commissioners asked residents to keep the Rountree family and local first responders in their prayers after a serious crash near Highway 46 and Neville's Denmark Road and described a prompt county response aimed at assessing the intersection.
At the meeting Chairman David Bennett and other commissioners expressed condolences and thanked emergency crews and school officials for their response to the incident. A county official reported that County Engineer Ron Nelson went to the intersection, coordinated with the Georgia Department of Transportation and public-works staff, and inspected the site to help prevent further tragedies.
“...as I'm pulling up, who's pulling up in front of me? Mister Ron Nelson, the county engineer, and he's out there looking at the road and the intersection to make sure that everything is the way that it's supposed to be, not just with our county rules, but with DOT rules as well too,” the chairman said, describing Nelson's actions.
Commissioners used the remarks to thank fire, EMS and school staff for their work at the scene and to remind residents of the next regular meeting date, and to note that county staff are available to meet with community groups about county business. There was no formal action recorded in the portion of the meeting that discussed the crash; the remarks were expressions of condolence and a description of staff activity.
The board also reminded the public that commissioners can be contacted through the county website and said they will make themselves available for community briefings or to answer questions on local issues.
