The Meriwether County Board of Commissioners approved the recreation department's purchase of registration software, authorized trailer decals and approved a fundraising event featuring the Harlem Legends.
Commissioners approved a motion authorizing the recreation department to purchase a recreation-management software package (rec desk preferred by staff) not to exceed $5,000, contingent on an updated quote and legal review of the vendor agreement. Staff said the software will allow online registration, calendar management and integrated payment processing, and that rec desk could be configured in time for basketball registration.
The board also discussed adding decals to the county concession trailer to identify it as county recreation property and recommended the recreation board finalize artwork and branding (including a Meriwether County seal on decals).
Separately, commissioners approved a fundraising event with the Harlem Legends (a Globetrotter-style exhibition) proposed for Dec. 13 at Woodbury Gym. Staff reported a performance cost near $8,700 and projected minimum net proceeds of about $6,000 after ticket sales and concessions; the board agreed the recreation account can cover expenses up front with expectation that ticket sales and sponsorships will offset the cost.
Recreation director Michael Douglas outlined plans for presale tickets, a VIP clinic and fundraising logistics. The board asked staff to finalize dates, sponsorships and ticket distribution, and to return with any significant contract terms.
