District says summer construction completed enough for opening; custom doors and data work remain

District facilities staff said buildings opened for school after a large summer construction effort; most classroom technology and HVAC were in place, but custom doors, remaining power/data drops and some hardware are still being completed.
Facilities and construction staff told the board that summer renovation work enabled schools to open but some elements remain to be finished.
Bill (construction staff) said the district managed extensive power and data installations, including more than 200 data drops in the high school science wing, and that Promethean boards and other classroom technology were installed so teachers could begin instruction. He said some infrastructure work (boilers and additional power/data) would occur overnight in the coming week to limit disruption.
Bill and the assistant superintendent for business said some custom-ordered doors (about 9½ feet tall for ALC offices and similar spaces) were delayed; temporary doors and slabs were installed to secure offices while the custom doors ship. Bill said the custom doors were expected to ship between the 19th and Sept. 23 and that lead times for doors and hardware were the reason for the delay.
Facilities staff said electricians and contractors shifted from day to night shifts to complete work and that the track had lines painted in time for the upcoming Friday football game. Board members and administrators were invited to walkthroughs of Berea and other renovated buildings after the meeting.
The board did not vote on capital work in this session; these were staff updates.
