Summary
District leaders told the board that buildings opened successfully after summer construction, reviewed convocation and professional learning activities, and noted hiring items on the agenda; the board approved the consent agenda 6-0.
Valley Central School District leaders reported that the first days of school proceeded smoothly and highlighted convocation, professional learning and personnel items during the board meeting.
District Superintendent (Superintendent) told the board that convocation on Sept. 2 included an alumni guest speaker and that staff visits and opening-day support helped students return without disruption. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction said professional learning sessions were aligned to the district’s focus areas (clarity of learning targets, MTSS, and use of AI as a classroom tool) and gave teachers time to plan by grade and department.
Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources reported hiring items on the agenda: two teachers, four paraprofessionals, two custodians and a maintenance foreman. The board approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting by a 6-0 vote.
Assistant Superintendent for Business and staff thanked district custodial and operations crews for summer work and invited board members to walk through recently renovated buildings after the meeting. The assistant superintendent also acknowledged Renee Marchant for her role in smoothing transportation and startup processes.
District staff encouraged parents to attend building open houses this week and next as opportunities to meet teachers and learn school procedures.
The board did not take separate votes on the items described in these reports beyond the consent agenda approval noted above.
