Residents spoke during public comment about pickleball court capacity and upcoming memorial events. Several players and volunteers said league play and regional tournament requirements make six dedicated courts necessary.
Why this matters: pickleball has grown as a community recreation activity, and court capacity affects leagues, tournaments and scheduling for other park users.
Lisa Ferguson and other residents described league growth and tournament requirements: “If we want to hold regional tournaments, we need six designated courts,” she said, and told the board that leagues she helps run have required six courts for several years. Charlie, a volunteer organizer referenced by commenters, agreed that league scheduling depends on having six playable courts.
On a separate but related community item, organizers said the stone for the Mary Kate McCubbin memorial will be installed on Sept. 17 with a kickoff tournament that evening; family members have been invited to attend and the date was chosen by the family. Parks staff were asked to attend the event and support the volunteer organizers.
No formal action on court construction or designation was taken at the meeting; residents requested that staff bring an analysis of court availability, maintenance needs and scheduling conflicts to a future meeting.
