The Township of Washington Zoning Board of Adjustment on Aug. 19 approved a one-year extension for application ZB23-16, allowing more time for the driveway expansion and installation of a replacement shed at 346 Fern Street.
The extension followed testimony from the applicant, Robert Terzi, who said financial setbacks delayed work. “Shortly after I was granted my first extension, my employer cut my salary, and then I found out a month or 2 after the business was being sold,” Terzi said, explaining the pause in construction. He told the board the sale was resolved in July and he now wants to move forward.
The board discussed the prior approvals and the length of the requested extension. Terzi had asked for eight months; board members agreed to extend the approval for one year, with the new expiration set for August 2026. The board held a public comment period on the item and then voted by roll call; all members present voted in favor. The board secretary will prepare a resolution for memorialization at next month’s meeting.
Board members emphasized that the extension is procedural and does not alter the scope of the approved work. The board noted that if the applicant does not complete the project within the extended period he will need to return with a new application.
The zoning board opened the general public portion at the start of the meeting and accepted in-person comments; no additional public objections to this item were recorded.
