Cabarrus County social services staff told commissioners the Department of Social Services has been allotted $188,741 from the state for FY27 for transportation administration; the grant requires a 15% county match and a public hearing prior to acceptance.
Charles Ratcliffe presented the funding details and said the FY27 allocation is $188,741. He explained that, unlike typical years that split funding between administration and capital, “none of our vehicles met their useful life, so we don't have any capital for FY27. So it's just straight admin.” He said the county match is 15%, equal to $9,437.05.
Ratcliffe told the board the grant “does require a public hearing, so we ask that you hold the public hearing at your next meeting and accept the grant and its associated resolution.” Commissioners agreed to move the matter to the consent agenda and to schedule the required public hearing at the regular meeting.
Why this matters: The grant covers transportation administration costs that support DSS clients’ mobility; the county must provide the 15% match and follow the public‑hearing requirement before final acceptance.
No formal acceptance vote was taken at the work session; the item was placed on the consent agenda with a request that the board hold the public hearing at the next meeting and then accept the grant and resolution.
