Quincy — Student board representative Andres Njonesk asked the Quincy School Board for permission to conduct a survey of Spanish‑speaking students and families to identify areas where the district can improve communication and support.
The request is relevant because student input may inform district communication strategies and efforts to expand translator or outreach services for families who do not speak English as a first language.
Njonesk explained he wanted to “do, like, a little survey, like, foresee how can I help help them, like, to every student?” and asked the board for permission and guidance. Board members told the student he should also seek approval from his principal — the student identified her as “Mrs. Baker” — and the district would welcome the input. One director offered to meet with the student representatives for coffee to discuss board functions and the logistics of collecting student feedback, and another director said the board could review the proposed questions before the survey was distributed.
Board members advised the student reps to bring a draft of the survey for the board’s input and to run the logistics by school leadership; they said district staff would follow up within the next week to schedule a meeting and review the plan. The discussion took place during the student report portion of the agenda and did not include a formal motion or vote.
If the student survey proceeds, the board indicated it would expect principal approval and review of questions before distribution to ensure privacy and compliance with district policies.
