County authorizes request for Valley Transit shuttle to support accessibility walkabout

The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners authorized the chair to request Valley Transit provide a shuttle for a walkabout event organized by the Walla Walla–Columbia County Accessible Communities Advisory Committee (ACAC).

Commissioner Clayton, the county’s designated ACAC commissioner, described the event as a one-mile walk scheduled for Monday, Sept. 30, that serves as the kickoff to the "week without driving" and offers firsthand insight into mobility barriers faced by people with accessibility needs. Clayton said the event aims to help commissioners and staff experience those barriers directly.

Commissioners voted 3-0 to authorize the chair to request that Valley Transit provide a shuttle for participants. Clayton encouraged commissioners to participate where possible and noted Valley Transit’s participation could help attendees with mobility or travel limitations join the walk.
