At the March 13 Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board meeting, community volunteers and neighborhood-watch members updated the board on local homeless-outreach efforts.
Al Roxas, who identified himself as a community activist and neighborhood-watch participant, described a new app used by outreach partners (referred to as a HELP program in remarks) to report locations of people experiencing homelessness so outreach teams can respond and log interactions. Roxas said volunteers have helped clear encampments on Sloan and Charleston and are coordinating with health providers to diagnose needs and connect people to services rather than solely relying on enforcement.
Roxas said the group is working with county teams and that the new system gives volunteers and officials a way to track responses and follow up. He also said coordination with judges and other agencies is ongoing to address encampment hotspots.
Board members did not take action on the update; the segment was heard as general public comment and information sharing.
