Advisory board approves second‑review for Cerunian salvage yard; commissioner requested progress update on street work

The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board on Thursday approved the second review and time extension for a proposed vehicle dismantling yard, salvage yard and recycling center on Hammer Lane east of Auto Street after the applicant reported progress on site improvements and utility relocation.

Blaine Soule of Dwyer Engineering, representing the applicant, said the second review was requested at the request of Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick to check on construction progress. Soule told the board that new sidewalks, ADA ramps and driveways have been installed, but that street reconstruction on Auto and Hammer Lane had been delayed pending relocation of a power pole. Soule said he had received a text from the site owner indicating the pole had now been relocated and that the applicant will proceed to complete required road improvements.

A public commenter, Al Rojas, said the area has vacant land and suggested broader industrial planning rather than additional junkyards; another speaker urged caution about locating the facility near a county women’s prison, saying demolition noise and heavy equipment could affect prison residents. Board discussion centered on verifying that the move of the utility pole had occurred and that final pavement work would follow.

Planning staff recommended approval of the time extension and second‑review to allow the applicant to complete the required work; the board voted to approve. The official tally recorded three ayes and two opposed. The applicant said they will provide updated photos showing the relocated pole and proceed with completion of the required street and paving work now that NV Energy (NP Energy) relocation is nearly complete.
