Board approves existing backyard workshop after neighbor support; owner must secure retroactive permits

The Paradise Advisory Board approved a waiver for an existing backyard workshop that the owner built without permits and that exceeds the residential structure height limit by roughly six inches. Neighbors testified in support of the property owner, saying the building is tidy and used for personal vehicle work rather than a commercial repair business.

Owner Jorge Casada said he built the shop without a permit and sought retroactive approval; he told the board he is willing to obtain required building permits and make any electrical or structural changes required by plan review. A neighbor testified the structure is unobtrusive and that Casada has been a careful, considerate neighbor. The board approved the waiver with preliminary staff conditions and required the owner to pursue the necessary permits and corrections as identified by building plan review.
