Planning commission recommends Filipinotown cultural-district application to county commission

The Clark County Planning Commission on Feb. 25 voted to recommend that the Clark County Commission consider designating a Filipinotown cultural district in Paradise, moving the application forward after public testimony from longtime residents and community organizers.
The application, presented by members of a newly formed Filipino community group, asks the county to recognize a corridor roughly between Flamingo Road and Desert Inn Road as a cultural district that would highlight Filipino businesses, festivals and heritage resources. Supporters told the commission the designation would concentrate cultural programming and help local Filipino-owned businesses such as Seafood City and related community institutions.
