The Metropolitan King County Council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt an ordinance altering the Committee of the Whole meeting schedule for a short period to support the council's biennial budget process.
The ordinance (No. 2025‑0275) shifts the committee's regular meeting time from 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month to 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Mondays for the period from Oct. 6 through Nov. 3. The committee will still hold its regular September 23 meeting and will resume its normal fourth‑Tuesday schedule on Nov. 25.
Jeff Mum, the council's chief policy officer, said the change implements a schedule described in a joint memo from the council chair and the budget chair and is intended to facilitate the council's biennial budget review. "This ordinance is necessary to effectuate that schedule by changing the regular meeting times of the committee of the whole from 09:30AM on the fourth Tuesday of each month to 09:30AM on the first and third Mondays of each month," Mum said.
The ordinance was moved by Vice Chair Perry and adopted on a roll‑call vote of 9‑0. The council clerk recorded ayes from all nine members, and the clerk announced adoption immediately following the roll call.
The change is a procedural measure to coordinate committee schedules with the budget review timeline; council staff said the amendment applies only to committee meeting times and does not alter committee membership or jurisdictional authority.
