The Woodbridge Township Council on June 3 approved three urban-renewal ordinances (letters c, d and e) that will provide tax abatement pilot agreements for projects described in the public hearing as a residential portion at a site referred to as "430," a business/restaurant site tied to a former Villa Borguets/Dolce location, and a proposed self-storage facility at 346 Main Street.
Town staff told the public each abatement is for a 30-year term. When asked who the developers are, officials said the applicants are the current property owners and that the specific corporate entity names were not provided during the meeting; officials said any application and related materials will be part of the public record.
Tom Maris of Ford's New Jersey asked whether the measures are tax abatements or pilot programs and what public benefit they will deliver. Ken Gardner, a resident, urged the council to vote against the measures, saying "they're all 30 year tax breaks" and that other local businesses pay their full taxes.
The council opened and closed the public hearing and adopted the three ordinances by voice vote following the hearing. Council members did not provide additional details about negotiated community benefits on the record at the meeting; officials said the developer applications will be available as public records for those seeking further details.
