The Woodbridge Township Council voted to take five ordinances up on first reading and ordered publication in the Home News Tribune, setting a public hearing for July 22 at 6 p.m. among items listed were a proposal to acquire open space along the Seawarn waterfront and a bond ordinance covering multiple parcels the township plans to purchase.
Council members voted to publish the ordinances on first reading in the newspaper on July 11 and to hold the hearing on July 22; the measures were presented together as items d, e, f, g and h. No final approvals were made; the actions moved the proposals to the statutorily required public notice stage.
Councilman Mitchell commented in favor of the Seawarn waterfront item (letter g), calling preservation of the waterfront a ‘‘priority on my agenda’’ and saying the added open space will be an asset to the waterfront walkway. The council did not engage in extended debate on the five ordinances during the first-reading motion.
Separately during public comment a resident questioned reporting that two of five parcels being purchased had been described by a local outlet as costing $600,000 while a bond ordinance listed a total of $1.3 million; the mayor explained the bond covers multiple parcels (four or five) and that the press had reported only on two of them. The council said more detailed information about parcel locations and final costs would be available in the second-reading materials and at the July 22 public hearing.
One first-reading ordinance (h) rescinds a January restriction on parking on Cliff Road, Seymour, converting that special no-parking zone to open parking; that item will be discussed again at second reading.
