Spring Valley — The Spring Valley Town Advisory Board on July 29 approved a design‑review request allowing a storage container on a residential parcel in Spring Valley for one year under staff‑recommended conditions.
Applicant Bridget Little said she and her husband, Guy Gribble, purchased the family home and placed a container on the property to store belongings while they renovate. “We’re looking for people to keep the container there until we can get a garage built,” Little told the board.
Neighbors and board members asked about visibility and timing. A neighbor, Michelle Tarnow, confirmed the container is behind a gate and fence and said that visibility from the street was not a concern. The applicant explained the container has no power or water and is intended as temporary storage; they also said they hope to build a garage within two years but accepted a one‑year condition when staff noted the application process includes a one‑year time commitment.
Planning staff confirmed the design review is for an accessory structure on a 1.04‑acre RS‑20 parcel in the neighborhood protection overlay, and that the process requires permits and building‑department approval for the future garage. Board member Matt moved to approve the application “with staff recommendations” and conditions limiting the container permit to one year; the motion passed.
Board discussion clarified that the container would remain inside the fenced yard and would not be placed in front of the property. The applicant said she had met with planners during the process and updated the submission after a county planner (Jamie Miller) reviewed the materials.
Ending: The approval allows the container to remain for one year from the approval date under the conditions noted by staff; the applicant said she intends to pursue permits for a garage and remove the container once the garage is constructed.
