Public Works staff briefed commissioners on an agreement amendment with the state Department of Transportation to obtain additional federal obligation authority (SDBG residual funds) for the Woodland Highway project. Staff said some federal dollars that other states could not obligate were being redistributed and that the county had an opportunity to obligate a portion for local projects.
Staff reported the county received a $900,000 grant overall and backfilled $217,530 from the road fund for timing differences; the amendment will be presented for action at the regular meeting to ensure the county secures the redistributed funds before the federal obligation deadline. "We got a $900,000 grant. Well, I don't know. The remaining 217,530 was spent out of the road fund. So we did that backfill through this," a staff presenter said.
Why it matters: the amendment secures additional federal funding for a local roadway project and requires timely county action to obligate the dollars. Staff said these redistributions typically flow to larger counties but that the opportunity can assist local projects when other states do not use all their allocation. The work session did not include a formal vote; staff said they would act on the amendment at the regular meeting to meet federal timing requirements.
