County begins distributing trail keys to fire districts after access problems

County staff reported to the Collin County Trails Advisory Committee that they have begun coordinating with local fire districts to ensure first responders have keys to access gates and bollards along the Olympic Discovery Trail.

After receiving reports of multiple incidents where responders could not access the trail, staff obtained a list of district chiefs from the fire marshal and contacted the districts. Staff said Fire District 2 confirmed receipt of about six keys and Fire District 4 asked for keys as well. Staff noted uncertainty about national‑park‑managed gates and said they were not certain whether the National Park Service maintains keys for every park gate.
