Committee members discussed pursuing lodging‑tax (LTAC) funding to patch and reconstruct the ODT segment near the nature center from North Priest Road to the River Center. The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe expressed interest in a higher‑quality, longer‑term design and supporting the county with letters of support.
County staff and tribe representatives told the Collin County Trails Advisory Committee they plan to pursue an LTAC grant for near‑term repairs on the Olympic Discovery Trail segment between North Priest Road and the River Center, while continuing to develop a longer‑term corridor vision.
Wendy Clark Getson, Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, said the trail in that corridor has deteriorated and ‘‘deserves patching immediately,’’ and the tribe is interested in a consistently paved entrance from West Hendrickson Road to the River Center with shoulders, landscaping and wayfinding. Will Habel, Palm County Public Works, said the corridor is narrow in most places and that the county needs to confirm right‑of‑way before proposing extensive reconstruction.
Committee members discussed splitting the work into two phases to improve the chances of winning LTAC funding: a near‑term ‘‘phase 1’’ focused on repairs and root management to fix immediate safety issues and a later, larger scope that addresses utilities, right‑of‑way acquisition and 12‑foot standards in high‑traffic areas. Staff noted the LTAC deadline is October 10 and recommended a scoped, cost‑estimated application oriented to what can be funded now; they suggested the application also include a description of a larger vision and commitments from partners.

Staff and committee members agreed to scope a Phase‑1, cost‑estimate‑ready LTAC application that addresses the immediate sinkhole and root problems, and to seek a tribal letter of support describing the broader corridor vision.
