United ISD board approves legal action and appoints multiple administrators
Summary

After returning from closed session at the July 2025 meeting, the United Independent School District board took several formal actions in open session.
The board authorized district legal counsel to proceed as discussed in closed session in a pending case that the presentation described as Potential Holdings LLC v. United Independent School District, cause number 2023-CV-G-151D2 in the district court of Webb County. A board member moved and the motion carried by voice vote: "Aye. Motion passes," the president said.
The board also approved a series of personnel appointments. The superintendent recommended and trustees approved assistant principals at multiple campuses and departmental directors: Georgina Hernandez was approved as assistant principal at J.B. Alexander High School; Adriana Cardenas was approved as assistant principal at United South High School; an assistant principal was approved at Octavio Salinas Elementary School (recommendation announced); Jessica Duarte was approved as director of health services; and Dorian Gutierrez was approved as director of facilities, maintenance and operations. Each recommendation was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members congratulated the appointees and closed the meeting with an adjournment motion. The meeting minutes record that no action was taken during the closed session and that all open-session actions were taken by voice vote with motions, seconds and unanimous "aye" responses recorded on the audio transcript.
The board cited Texas Government Code closed-session provisions at the start of the executive session (sections 551.071, 551.072 and 551.074 were read aloud) when it convened the closed session prior to these open-session votes.
