United ISD board votes to propose nonrenewal for teacher‑coach, names attorney for nonrenewal hearing

At a special called meeting in May 2025, the United Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a recommendation to propose the nonrenewal of a classroom teacher and coach’s term contract and designated attorney Julio Rubio to conduct the nonrenewal hearing.

A staff member recommended proposing nonrenewal of the teacher and coach identified in the recommendation as Christopher Alonso (the transcript contains a later variant, “Christopher Arnoldson”). The recommendation asked trustees to designate attorney Julio Rubio to conduct the nonrenewal hearing and to authorize the superintendent to send notice to the affected employee. “Members of the board, I’m recommending to propose a non renewal of classroom teacher and coach, Christopher Alonso’s term contract of employment, to designate attorney Julio Rubio to conduct the nonrenewal hearing and to authorize me to send notice of the same to the affected employee,” the staff member said.

A motion and second were recorded and trustees indicated their approval by voice vote. The presenter recorded the motion as passing.

The item followed the district’s recess into closed session under Texas Government Code sections 551.071, 551.072 and 551.074; the board returned to open session and reported no action was taken during closed session before taking the public motion on the nonrenewal. The transcript does not include the reasons for the proposed nonrenewal; the action recorded in open session was to authorize proceeding with a nonrenewal hearing and to designate legal counsel to conduct it.
