Southwest ISD board hears progress reports on multiple renovation and new-construction projects

District staff and contractors gave updates on renovation and construction work at several campuses and the new central office, reporting projects largely on schedule and on budget with staggered completion dates this summer and fall.
Southwest ISD trustees received a multi-site construction update covering renovations and new-build work at several elementary campuses, millwork replacements at two campuses, the Creeewald (School of the Arts) renovation, a new central office and the Alvarado Elementary project.
Contractors and district staff reported the projects are generally on schedule and on budget. James Moore of LCR said the Bob Hope Elementary renovation was about 90% complete, with the library ready for furniture and substantial completion moved from Sept. 19 to August (month stated). He said remaining punch-list items would take roughly 15 to 30 days.
LPA Architecture reported Elm Creek Elementary work is phased and that phase 1 is about 85% complete while phase 2 has begun; the presentation included cafeteria and classroom work and showed demolition complete in many spaces. Millwork replacement at Indian Creek (43 classrooms) and Big Country (39 classrooms) had demolition finished and millwork installation scheduled to start the week of the report; a change order for the millwork projects was shown at $2,300,000.
At Southwest Elementary, the project is divided into six phases. The district installed portables as swing space and began phase 2 demolition; staff reported heavier-than-expected new HVAC equipment required structural reinforcement but no change orders had been requested so far and the project remained on time and on budget.
Marksmans (contractor) and Huckabee presented Creeewald School of the Arts renovations: portables provided swing space, phase work continues through the summer and the contractor was in build-back, ceiling grid and HVAC trim-out phases with substantial completion targeted in July for the current phase. Work listed included ceiling replacement, resilient flooring, millwork updates and testing of HVAC systems.
Kincon reported the new central office building was roughly 75% complete with masonry and metal wall panels installed, soffit work nearly finished and above-ceiling and acoustic work in progress; fire-department inspection was scheduled which would allow above-ceiling finishes to proceed.
The Alvarado Elementary new-build project was reported at approximately 23% complete, with crawl-space insulation, soil retaining and slab work finished and structural steel installation underway; weather (recent heavy rain) had slowed steel work slightly but rapid progress was expected.
District staff noted they are coordinating furniture deliveries and that the construction program currently includes roughly 11 active projects with an estimated combined value of about $170 million, a higher project load than the district typically carries.
Trustees asked scheduling questions (e.g., library furniture arrival dates) and contractors provided target dates; no formal board actions were associated with the informational construction updates during the meeting.
