Brandon, a district facilities staff member, told the board teachers recently toured Crutchfield and Fairview and signed structural elements during walkthroughs. He described ongoing interior work (flooring, carpet, glazing), metal wall panels and ceiling work at Parker Elementary, glazing and brick work at Sherman High additions, new parking paving at the stadium site and early work on a detention pond and underground utilities. "We're actually starting to put carpet in some of the admin areas for the schools," Brandon said of recent progress at Crutchfield.
On the early-childhood center, Brandon said the district received more than 215 bids — a turnout he characterized as higher than earlier projects — and staff expect to present a general-contractor Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) at the May board meeting. He also noted site-selection and sequencing in the district’s facilities plan, including the timeline for a second new elementary and a third middle school.
A board member asked whether the new parking poured south of the softball field will connect to the field area; staff said the parking will connect to a new subfield entrance and that sidewalks and gate entrances will be included. Brandon said additional northwest parking will be developed and a sidewalk will provide pedestrian access to the subfield.
Later in the meeting the board approved its consent agenda by voice vote. Board member David Tarvin moved to approve all consent items and Nathan Kane seconded; the chair called for ayes and the motion carried. The consent agenda included the attendance-zone proposal reviewed earlier in the meeting.
Separately, the board voted to adjourn into closed session to consult with the district’s attorney and discuss personnel and real-estate matters; minutes show the motion to adjourn was made and seconded and that the board recessed. The board reconvened in open session later in the meeting.
