Board names new Heritage Ranch campus for David and Paula Parker; construction timelines, early‑childhood concerns discussed

The Sherman ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a facilities committee recommendation to name the district’s new Heritage Ranch elementary school the David and Paula Parker Elementary School.
Dr. O’Neil said the facilities committee’s unanimous recommendation was based on the Parkers’ long service: “David and Paula Parker combined have 64 years total service with SISD,” he said, noting David’s 34 years as a teacher and administrator and Paula’s 30 years as a teacher across district campuses. A motion to approve the recommendation carried on a voice vote.
On construction, project manager Brandon reported progress across multiple bond projects and fielded trustee questions about dates for moving furniture and teacher occupancy. He said Crutchfield’s exterior brick and roof work are advancing, that a July 15 temporary‑occupancy target was in the schedule for furniture installation and that staff aim to allow teachers into new buildings as soon as interior finishes permit. Trustees asked staff to press contractors for earlier campus access where possible so teachers can set up classrooms before the school year.
Board members also discussed the early childhood center (ECC). Trustees and staff described concerns raised by ECC teachers about storage capacity and the distance from some outdoor play areas to multi‑stall bathrooms. Brandon and Dr. O’Neil said classroom cabinetry, shared pod storage and mobile (castered) storage solutions are planned; they also said there is a multi‑stall bathroom connected to the storm‑shelter/gym area that is accessible from the courtyard. Trustees asked staff to return with clarified floor plans and storage details before the guaranteed maximum price consideration.
Additional construction items: stadium permit approvals from the city remain in process but third‑party agreements were delivered and the parking lot pour has occurred; the district is following up to secure full permitting. Trustees asked staff to continue to press for timely permits and to provide updated timelines at the next meeting.
