The San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 11 approved a slate of personnel actions, an update to the district compensation plan for 2025–26 and the superintendent’s contract following closed-session consideration under statutory personnel and legal consultation provisions.

During a closed session the board discussed personnel and legal matters under policy references provided in open session (551.074 and 551.071). After reconvening, trustees approved resignations, retirements and the following new personnel: Ricardo Pena, art teacher at Garfield Middle School; Isaac Garcia, social studies teacher at Del Rio High School; and Nicole Lubenko, mathematics teacher at Del Rio Middle School. The board also approved multiple administrative appointments and staff hires that the administration recommended.

Amy Childress presented human-resources items. Trustees approved an updated list of second-observation appraisers for the 2025–26 school year (appraisers may be the campus administrator at the teacher’s campus, a campus administrator at another campus, or a district administrator such as the chief academic officer, director of special education, or director of curriculum and instruction). The board also approved an update to the 2025–26 compensation plan that changes the Dean of Instruction, secondary (New Tech at San Felipe Memorial Middle School) from 220 contract days to 212 days, per the administration’s recommendation.

Specific appointments approved by motion included Christie Barrera as Dean of Instruction, New Tech at San Felipe Memorial Middle School (motion by Ms. Shovalito; second by Amy Haines), Melissa Rivas as Dean of Instruction at San Felipe Memorial Middle School (motion by Becky Chavez; second by Michelle Maraz), Sarah Sunderland as speech-language pathologist in the special education department (motion by Mr. Ramirez; second by Amy Haines), and Mona Mendoza as librarian at Dr. Lonnie Green Elementary (motion by Michelle Galinto; second by Linda Webb). The board approved the personnel report naming the new classroom hires (motion by Mr. Ramirez; second by Amy Haines). All personnel motions carried unanimously.

Trustees also moved to accept the Board of Trustees Composite Summative Evaluation of the Superintendent for the 2024–25 school year and then approved the superintendent’s employment contract as discussed in closed session. The board recorded the votes in open session; motions to accept the evaluation and to approve the contract both carried unanimously.

Board members did not provide contract terms in the open transcript; the minutes note the evaluation and contract were discussed in closed session and that the board took formal action in open session to accept the evaluation and to approve the contract.

The board adjourned after completing the approved motions.
