During the Sept. 2 meeting, residents raised multiple road concerns — including tree roots uprooting pavement on Sarepta Road, safety problems at the four-way stop at U.S. 41 and Jackson Store Road, and inconsistent roadside mowing on NC 50 south of Kingsville — and asked the board and staff to investigate.
County staff and commissioners discussed the concerns and indicated they would follow up. The county manager noted he had spoken with NCDOT about an unpaved road where gravel work was planned and said he would check on mowing-contract frequency after questions about whether the county mows four times a year. "I'll check on it," the manager said in response to a commissioner’s question.
During the same meeting, the board approved several road-name requests after public hearings: Walker Estates Drive (Island Creek Township, Walker request), Brothers Diaz Boulevard (Magnolia Township), Oakwood Drive (Eastwood Acres), Moretti Farms Lane (Cypress Township), and Brenda Gale Lane (Kennesville Township). Motions to accept each name were made and passed unanimously.
No ordinances or funding decisions were made at the meeting to correct the reported road hazards; staff committed to investigate and coordinate with NCDOT where appropriate. Residents were advised to report precise locations to county staff for follow-up.
