Duplin County social services: PATH rollout, $151,000 in crisis aid and annual Socktober drive

Annie Murrow, director of the Duplin County Department of Social Services, told the Consolidated Human Services Board that the county rolled out the PATH NC system on July 14 and is continuing to learn the platform while working with state technical support. Murrow said the agency is meeting the state's memorandum of understanding goals across economic programs, child welfare, adult services and child support.
Murrow said the county received $151,000 in crisis funding from the state and that residents who are struggling to pay electric bills can apply by phone, online or in person. "We received a $151,000 for our crisis funding," Murrow said, and added that the application process is quick and that funds are available now.
Murrow outlined the department's annual community donation effort, known locally as Socktober. She said staff collect slip-on socks and throw blankets during September, with donations distributed in November to nursing homes or assisted-living facilities; this year the department plans to donate to the county's remaining nursing home and intends to focus on assisted-living facilities next year. Murrow said staff also attended three back-to-school events in August.
