Organizers promote Kids Day and cancer walk at council meeting

Dr. John and May described Kids Day as a free event at Maricopa Wells Middle School on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring about 100 activities including helmet-and-bicycle safety with the police department and Phoenix Children’s Hospital, fire-department demonstrations, 4‑H animals, CERT and search-and-rescue displays, singing, dancing and other youth programming. “Kids Day is health, safety, environmental awareness for kids,” the speaker said.
Ocean Kent of Ocean Industries said the Boots on the Ground, 10 Toes Down cancer walk will be Nov. 15 at Copper Sky from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include free screenings from SimonMed and Cancer Care; Kent thanked Councilmember Amber Liermann and Councilmember Gettle for sponsorship support and asked for additional sponsors and participants.
Ending: Both presenters invited residents and businesses to participate, sponsor or volunteer; no formal city actions were taken on the announcements during the meeting.
