The Buckeye City Council on a unanimous vote approved Ordinance No. 25-25 to annex approximately 2.52 acres at the northwest corner of East Baseline Road and MC 85. Adam Copeland, a city staff member, presented the item at the council’s public hearing and recommended approval after describing the site, zoning and procedural steps. The parcel, which Copeland said is currently zoned C-3 commercial in Maricopa County, would be annexed into the city with like C-3/regional commercial zoning and lies within the Buckeye General Plan’s downtown specific area plan. Copeland told the council this was a second hearing; he said the annexation petition was recorded July 29 and the property owner signed the petition on Aug. 29, all required advertising and sign postings were completed under Arizona Revised Statutes and the Buckeye Development Code, and reviewing departments had no outstanding issues. The council opened the public hearing, heard no speakers, and then moved to approve the ordinance. The motion passed unanimously; the council recorded a 7-0 affirmative vote. The council did not state an effective date or subsequent steps for development during the hearing.
