The Buckeye City Council on Aug. 26 approved a permanent three-lane cross section for Monroe Avenue through downtown and authorized staff to proceed with an interim restriping plan intended to approximate that configuration within the next nine months.
The move implements staff recommendations developed after multiple workshops, public meetings and a pilot demonstration block. "Regardless of the outcome, we're gonna be moving forward with some of these activities to improve the infrastructure in downtown," said Brian Craig, the city's development services director, during the presentation.
The council's decision follows months of outreach tied to the Downtown Specific Area Plan (DSAP) and a year-plus of pilot work on Monroe. Craig told the council the city has conducted multiple workshops and public meetings, mailed more than 1,900 notices, logged roughly 11,000 social engagements and collected 865 community survey responses during the planning process.
