An unexpected storm that swept through West Windsor on June 30 left residents with flickering or lost power, caused traffic lights to fail at some intersections and brought down trees, township officials said.
Council members and the mayor reported early storm impacts at the start of the meeting. The mayor noted traffic lights were out at North Post and Clarksville roads and urged residents to exercise caution.
Township staff reported a high volume of emergency calls during the weather event, including mutual-aid responses to Plainsboro, where storm damage included multiple downed trees. Later in the meeting the township provided an urgent update: large branches fell on buses parked near the senior center, and the township canceled senior-bus service for the following day while staff assess damage and notify riders. "We are canceling bus service for tomorrow. Senior center will be contacting everyone," township staff said.
Council members thanked first responders and municipal crews for storm response. The mayor and council advised residents to follow utility and public-safety guidance, check on neighbors, secure pets during fireworks season and report hazards to township departments.
