Goodyear — A resident asked the City Council on Aug. 25 to consider allowing pickleball court lights at Goodyear Community Park to turn on at 5 a.m. during the hottest months so early‑morning players — including working parents and construction workers — can play before the heat.
Eric Oster said he had discussed the request with the acting parks and recreation director, who told him the current timing equipment does not allow the lights to be programmed to 5 a.m. Oster requested a seasonal adjustment from May through September to permit earlier lighting and said many residents begin work before dawn to avoid high temperatures.
Oster asked the council to consider the change and said players would be respectful of the privilege. The city manager said staff would check for any ordinance restrictions and technical limitations and would follow up. “I will, and we'll follow‑up,” the manager said on the record.
The request was made during public comment; no formal council action was taken at the meeting.
